Mark Thomson


Department: Wills, Tax and Probate

Mark graduated from Exeter University and now specialises in the administration of estates, tax planning and the preparation of Wills. He trained with the firm and has been a Solicitor in the Wills, Tax and Probate department since qualification in May 2005.


He was brought up in Sevenoaks and lives locally. Mark became a Partner in 2012.


Mark retired as a Partner in 2017 and is now a part time Consultant Solicitor in the firm.

Brian Robson

Brian Robson


Department: Litigation

Brian is a senior assistant solicitor in the litigation department. He has over 25 years experience as a litigator having first qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives and then admitted as a Solicitor in 1998.


His practice at Knocker & Foskett involves: 


  • Personal Injury claims including clinical negligence claims
  • Disputes relating to land/real property - including boundary disputes and rights of way disputes
  • Landlord and Tenant - possession actions
  • Contractural Disputes - both consumer and commercial
  • Agency Disputes
  • Inheritance Act Claims - under the Inheritance (Provisions for Family and Dependants) Act 1975.


Brian was appointed a Deputy District Judge in 2010.

Anne Weare

Anne Weare


Department: Wills, Tax and Probate

Anne graduated in law from Exeter University and after qualifing and practising in London, joined the firm in September 2000 when she moved to Kent.


She specialises in the administration of trusts and the tax consequences thereof.


Jane Brassington


Department: Company and Commercial

Jane grew up in Four Elms and attended Tonbridge Grammar School. She graduated in law at Leeds University and completed her Legal Practice Course at the College of Law London. Jane worked in the corporate department of City firm CMS Cameron McKenna for 9 years and joined the commercial team of Knocker & Foskett in Autumn 2014.

Emma P

Emma Houghton


Department: Wills, Tax and Probate

Emma started her Legal career by studying European Business Law with French at the University of Abertay Dundee and Orleans University, Orleans, France.

Upon spending some time as a Teacher of English as a foreign language in Barcelona, Spain, Emma moved to London to complete her CPE and LPC at London Metropolitan University. Upon qualification, Emma worked predominantly in wills, tax, probate and family law in a firm in West London.

She has more recently practised solely in wills, tax and probate work involving matters such as estate administration, will drafting, dealing with the preparation and registration of lasting powers of attorney and the registration of enduring powers of attorney and managing the day-to-day running of Court of Protection matters. 

Among other things, Emma’s interests include being an Ambassador for Cancer Research UK and running, having undertaken various charity runs such as the Run to the Beat half marathon.


Tracy Sales


Department: Wills, Tax & Probate

Tracy studied for her Law Degree in Northampton before completing her Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Guildford. Tracy qualified as a solicitor in September 2000 and since qualifying has specialised in Wills, Tax and Probate working in Kent and East Sussex.


Tracy joined Knocker and Foskett in 2016 and specialises in estate administration, the preparation of Wills, the preparation and registration of Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection matters.


Tracy is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and of the Private Client Section of the Law Society.


Susan Waterman

Department: Residential Conveyancing

Susan is an Associate Legal Executive having worked in the residential proeprty sector initially as a legal secretary progressing to become a fee earner in 2008.


Susan joined the residential conveyancing department of Knocker & Foskett in 2016.

Rachel Yates

Rachel Yates


Department: Company and Commercial

Following over a decade at a niche property practice in the City, Rachel joined Knocker & Foskett in 2016. Rachel specialises in non-contentious commercial property work including lettings and asset management, together with sales and purchases of retail, office, industrial and mixed use investments.


Rachel attended Tonbridge Grammar and then later graduated from Durham University before qualifying as a solicitor in 2003. She has lived in the Sevenoaks area for most of her life and is enjoying now working in the area too.

Julie Miller

Julie is a senior solicitor in the Wills, Tax and Probate department and has over 20 years of experience as a Solicitor having been admitted in 1995   Julie works with a broad range of clients and her practice at Knocker & Foskett involves:

  • Wills both straightforward and more complex
  • Lifetime Inheritance Tax Planning
  • Powers of Attorney
  • Probate and the Administration of Estates
  • Trusts
  • Court of Protection Applications
  • Mental Capacity issues and the management of financial affairs

Julie is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (‘STEP’) and the Private Client Section of the Law Society.

Margaret Sculpher

Margaret Sculpher


Department: Family

Margaret trained with Knocker & Foskett and worked for us in her early years of practice. She has now returned to the fold after working for many years in a long established Kent practice.


Margaret specialises in all areas of Family Law and adopts a conciliatory approach to her work. She is a collaborative lawyer and also sits on the Kent Resolution Committee.


Joanne Searle


Department: All Departments

Joanne studied law at the University of Surrey, undertaking a sandwich year working at Knocker & Foskett. She completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (LPC) at the University of Law in Guildford.

Joanne joined the firm in 2015 and completed her training contract before qualifying as a Solicitor in October 2017.


Kimberlee Smith

Kimberlee Smith


Department: Residential Conveyancing

Kimberlee read law at the University of Kent graduating with an LLB (Hons) in 2012. After completing her degree she studied the LPC at Kaplan Law School, London Bridge between 2012 and 2013.  Following this Kimberlee's training contract commenced in March 2014 and qualification in 2016.

Kimberlee has recently joined Knocker & Foskett in April 2018 and specialises in residential conveyancing.

Elizabeth was educated at St Andrews School for Girls in Johannesburg and obtained a BA LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1988. She trained with a Johannesburg based law firm and obtained further qualifications as a notary and conveyancer  followed by Tax and Company Law specialisations. 

After ten years in private practice as a notary, conveyancer and family lawyer she set up her own firm in 2000. In 2006 she relocated to the UK with her family and qualified as a Solicitor in 2007. 

Since qualifying Elizabeth has worked for firms in Sevenoaks and Tenterden, where she was a partner from 2012 to 2018, specialising in residential and commercial conveyancing.

Finian Davern

Department: Litigation & Employment

Finian advises on commercial and civil disputes, including breach of contract, agency and professional negligence claims, and probate and property disputes. He conducts cases through the courts system, but also where appropriate for his clients is experienced in negotiating out-of-court settlements on favourable terms.  

He also provides employment law advice (to both employers and employees) in contentious and non-contentious matters on statutory and contractual rights and obligations.

Finian is in the process of qualifying as a Notary Public and intends to commence practising alongside his work as a solicitor in autumn 2018.


Barry Landa

Department: Practice Manager

Barry Landa became the Practice Manager in January 2002 following more than 14 years as the Senior Clerk to a leading set of Barristers Chambers based in Gray’s Inn, London. 

Barry is the overall manager of Knocker & Foskett responsible for the administration, finance and day to day running of the firm. Any queries or concerns relating to accounts or the handling of your matter can be reported directly to him.
