Council must repay family for care home overcharge

Published on Apr 3, 2019

When a care home agreed a weekly rate of £450 for residential care for an elderly person but the local council assessed the charge at £750 per week, the family of the care home resident complained to the Local Government Ombudsman.

The result was that the council was ordered to repay more than £14,000 that had been overcharged, plus interest of £200.
